This Saturday, Firefalldown will perform two or three acoustic tracks on the "Live at the Vault" show on BRFM 97.3 (Best Radio for Miles.... based in Gwent, Wales). Feel free to listen in live at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
Later that evening, the band will rev-it-up for an energy-packed night at the New Angel Inn (formerly the PS Bar), supported by Signal:Fire (kicking melodic nu-metallers) and AfterShock (local rocker upstarts) - based on the two previous gigs at the New Angel, this is going to be another seriously cool evening - don't miss it if you're in the area!!
Last weekend the band had their last London gig for 2009 on the Friday night, playing at a good friend's birthday party... entrance was free, which was is no bad thing these days (HAPPY BIRTHDAY REBECCA)!! This was followed by another gig at the Hobbit in Southampton on Saturday night. The band have played here on numerous occasions and the vibe there is always great - lots of students looking for a good time - that's the kind of place to be! Firefalldown were joined by Pandora, now good buddies after a fair bit of gigging together in this last year. These guys never fail to deliver melodic, rocking and catchy tunes - so be sure to catch them if you get the chance!! Sam Pickett from the Meat Eating Orchids performed a few solo acoustic numbers which went down well with the party crowd there. Hobbit, thanks loads for having us!!!
GREAT NEWS this last week - the Firefalldown single was rated as one of the top 20 releases of 2009 by Cross Rhythms - see here for the full review!! Wording was as follows: From the single "Commissioned" (Sonic Juan) I do hope this Filipino band of hard rockers go on to bigger things and release an album to follow on from this scorching single. It can be no easy thing to be such bold, in-your-face Gospel communicators trawling around the darker recesses of British clubland and Firefalldown deserve the plaudits both for their spiritual focus and for making such an exciting, gutsy noise on their debut single. Jon Blaylock has a wonderfully gravelly voice, the song has a strong hook and the hit-everything-in-sight drumming from Andrew Hodgson is the nearest thing I've heard to that technique since I grooved to Animal on The Muppets. The commercial end of hard music. In a perfect world this would have charted. Thanks very much to Cross Rhythms for the kind words!!
Firefalldown also had the privilege of playing at the JXC magazine issue 7 launch party on the 14th November at Taylor John's House in Coventry - a good night was had by all (special thanks to Carlos the session drummer who stepped in to perform while Andrew was unavailable)!!!. JXC started in January 2006, as an idea about how to bring a positive message to a neglected scene. The Magazine is published Quarterly and has a worldwide audience and ships EVERYWHERE.The Magazine is paper based, & published their 7th quarterly issue on 14th November 2009. The Next Issue will be out in February 2010 (they have previously interviewed and photographed bands such as: The Chariot, UnderOATH, War of Ages, August Burns Red, HANDS, BBABH, New Found Glory, Comeback Kid, The Devil Wears Prada, Seventh Star, Gwen Stacy, Anberlin, Set Your Goals, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Hands, The Black Dahlia Murder, Converge, As I lay Dying, Bleeding Through, Misery Signals, Poison the Well and many more, for our new and previous issues).
More news as it comes.... keep checking the blog!!
There were some great bands and equally great company to be enjoyed at this year's Meltdown festival - click here for a link to an interview with Raphael Merriman from Detonation magazine - it includes some of the Firefalldown live footage at the festival.
Interesting times here in the FFD camp. We've had a quieter patch following on from all those gigs in the Summer. Clearly, it is now winter, and time to get warmed up by starting the gigs again. Keep checking the dates to see if we'll be headed into your area, we'll definitely be getting in a few dates before everyone quiets down for Christmas.
We've recorded some new tracks, but are waiting to get them mastered and are working on a release date - likely to be early next year. Huge apologies for this wait - we realise that you guys have not had anything new for a while. We trust you'll find the wait was worth it!!
In the meantime, don't forget to check out all the videos we put up on Firefalldown TV www.youtube.com/user/firefalldownmusic - there's always something happening on there - and you'll be kept up to date with as much "behind the scenes" footage as we can post up there... including the green machine breakdown here.... and a live vid of one of the new ones as yet unrecorded here
Don't forget, you can also follow us on Twitter.... if tweeting floats your boat. Send us a message and stay in touch. http://twitter.com/firefalldownUK - we're getting better at using it (now that we're becoming more technologically sophisticated as we move out of our own little stone age).
The break's almost over, with the band preparing to hit the road again come September. A few updates you might be interested in:
Firefalldown has been given a slot at the Meltdown stage at Greenbelt on Saturday, the 29th of August. Check herefor more info. It's the biggest Christian festival in Europe, so the trek will be well worth it!
